Everyone’s Favorite 4-Letter Word: L-O-V-E

8 Feb

Sorry Salt-n-Pepa, we aren’t talking about that.  We are talking about L-O-V-E and it’s time to celebrate!   Now, who’s with me!?

“But wait, Steph…You don’t have a boyfriend.  You aren’t seeing anyone, going on dates or even casually drunk-texting a single male specimen.  I even heard a rumor you recently went to the movies alone.”

Statement 1: True. Statement 2: True.  Statement 3: I plead the 5th.

But I truly believe Valentine’s Day is not just for those of us with a significant other!

This quote from @TheSingleWoman sums it up perfectly:

“You don’t need a lover in your life to have love in your life!”

And what am I loving right now?  Valentine’s Day Cocktails!  I have an A-List Valentine’s Day party to attend this week and I am falling in love with the thought of making these drinks for all the guests!

Raspberry Chocolate Kiss Martini (adapted from Martha’s original recipe)

Love without the Chub

11 Jan

Don’t deny it. You know it’s coming.  You can feel it down in your core and  sense it in the biting winter air.  Open your eyes–it’s even on the store-front displays at Target!

C’mon people, I am talking about VALENTINES DAY!

As I was parousing the aisles of a local liquor store, I noticed an unfamiliar bottle labeled Chocovine.

ChocoVine is a blend of  French cabernet and dark chocolate from Holland with 14% alcohol content.  It can be served on the rocks or as a Bailey’s-type substitute in martini drinks.  A bottle of ChocoVine usualy runs around $12.

Red wine and dark chocolate all in one bottle!?  Sounds like I hit the Valentine’s Day jackpot!

But as usual, anything that seems too good to be true probably is.  Case and point: Four Loko, The Hills, Tiger Woods.

At least we still have Beiber to hold on to.....

Turns out, ChocoVine has a whopping 357 calories for 5 ounces.  That’s nearly 4 times more calories than your average glass of wine!

What’s a better way to indulge on Valentine’s Day? Take the old fashioned route!

A full-bodied glass (or two) of red wine–stick with a Pinot Noir or Malbec!

Layer Cake Malbec, $15.99

Organic Dark Chocolate–either bittersweet or for a more subtle flavor try semi-sweet!

Dagoba Organic Dark Bar, $3.50

Advantages to this lustful combination:

  • lighter in calories: 100 calories for every 5 oz glass of wine and only 190 calories for1/2 of this decadent chocolate bar!
  • affordable:  this unique wine and chocolate pairing can easily be done for under $20!
  • health benefits:  dark chocolate and red wine are both great sources of natural antioxidants that can lower blood pressure and reduce heart risks.
