Kim Kardashian Goes Green

26 Jan

Kim Kardashian is going green–and no, I’m not talking about her recycling habits.

Kim has recently signed a major endorsement deal with  Midori Melon Liquer.  Midori, manufactured by Suntory, plans to make Kim the new face of it’s green melon-flavored cordial in it’s latest marketing campaign launching in April.

If you try and imitate Kim’s every move ( minus the whole sex tape thing) like I do, you may want to take caution on how you savor the new “Kim-approved” liquer.

Midori Sour–popular mixed drink containing Midori, sour mix, sprite and grenadine.

300 calories/8-oz glass!

Midori Fizz (also called Midori Rickey)–simple and refreshing mixture of Midori, club soda and a lime wedge.

 80-100 calories/8-oz glass!

Phew!  Now that we cleared up that potential calorie-catastrophe, we can spend our time worrying about more important things…

JUSSSSSSST KIDDING…..but not really.

Lessons I learned last night:

1.  Don’t go see a movie alone. (Note to self: don’t ever formally admit to this)

2.  Especially not Black Swan.

3.  Center Stage> Black Swan….no matter what the Oscars say.

While I am still afraid to look in the direction of any reflective object and I will never be able to enjoy Forgetting Sarah Marshall again, there is a bright side…

Dobel Tequila has created a delicious Black Swan-inspired cocktail that includes some of my fav ingredients:

The Twisted Swan

1 1/2 oz Chambord

1 oz Dobel Tequila

1/2 oz Disaronno

Shake over ice and strain.

CAUTION: Drink may induce lesbian sex hallucinations & turn you into a crazed swan.

A De-lightful Holiday Wishlist

8 Dec

There is no denying it–the Christmas season is officially upon us.  Time for the awkward family Christmas cards, cheesy holiday music and wonderfully tacky home lighting displays

Who ever said less is more?

What’s my favorite way to get in the holiday spirit?  A nice, long Christmas list!

1.  Eclectic wine rack: I am currently using a hideous wooden wine rack that looks so old it might have been built it Joseph’s little wood shop in Nazareth.  I don’t need anything super fancy or expensive, but I would a wine rack that is both functional and eye-catching.

  2.  Set of Basic Stemware: I’m more than ready to upgrade my Solo drinking cups and hodgepodge wine glass collection for a full set of stemware.  I want something simplistic with just a little edginess to it.  Most importantly, it has to be cheap enough that I don’t feel bad when I inevitably drop a glass here or there.

3. A puppy: Yup, I never thought I’d say it but I have become a secret animal lover recently and I want a puppy.  I’m thinking a small, low-maintenance dog.  I need something I can inappropriately take with me into public places but doesn’t yip incessantly or look like something Paris Hilton totes around.  Realistically, Santa will not be bringing me a cuddly little dog this year but hey– a girl can dream, right?

   4.  Cocktail Literature: There are a ton of new mixology manuals and drinking-related books that I am dying to get my hands on!  I’m not picky–but big, colorful pictures are a MUST.

 5. Elegant Sweater Dress– Christmas time means a social calendar chock full of holiday parties but i hate NOTHING more than being cold in a skimpy cocktail dress.  This year I am lusting over a glitzy, embellished sweater dress that is fashionable enough to wear to all the holiday souirees yet doesn’t leave me with goose bumps.

6. Camera/Camcorder: This is by far my most practical gift on the list.  I really really really need something (sorry, I am soo not tech-savvy) that will allow me to take better pictures and videos for my blog and future journalistic endeavors.  I considered the Flip but I would prefer a device that has the ability to take still pictures as well as video.  I will let Santa do some further research…

8.  And last but not least (but completely unnecessary nonetheless) THE BEERBOT: I saw this article online today and I couldn’t resist.  Hear me out…I don’t drink beer.  But maybe I would if I had a robot to pour me a cold one….

My breakfast made me HAPPY :)

2 Nov

I am the last person to ever recommend a drink sans (that either means “without” in another language or I made it up) alcohol, but I feel obligated to quickly post about this amazing smoothie recipe I made for breakfast!

Sorry it's a terrible picture....and in a BL Lime glass.

It’s called the Green Monster and I am completely obsessed.  Green Monster smoothies are supposed to provide you with tons of energy and make you feel good on the inside and outside.  Did a little research and apparently these smoothies have become so popular there is actually a Green Monster movement.

Here is the basic recipe I stole from Oh She Glows, blogger who started Green Monster movement:

  • 2 cups organic spinach
  • 1-1.25 cups milk (I used vanilla soy)
  • 1 tablespoon flax (optional)
  • 1 banana
  • ice

Put first four ingredients in blender in this order: flax, spinach, banana, milk.  Blend for a minute, add ice and blend until completely pureed.  Pour into a tall glass and enjoy!

I can just picture my roommate Christina cringing as she reads the word “spinach” in the ingredients list (you should have seen her face when I told her I was making fish tacos for dinner…in her defense, that is a gross recipe name) …but trust me this tastes NOTHING like spinach at all! It’s actually really sweet and refreshing!  I added a couple packets Splenda because I am an addict and need my daily fix but it’s really not even necessary for this smoothie!

Best part is I have SO MUCH ENERGY! It’s only 11 am and I have already written a paper, gotten dressed and ready for class, done some laundry and found motivation to write this entry!  My next goal is to find out how this magical smoothie will translate into a cocktail…stay tuned 🙂
