I am the last person to ever recommend a drink sans (that either means “without” in another language or I made it up) alcohol, but I feel obligated to quickly post about this amazing smoothie recipe I made for breakfast!
It’s called the Green Monster and I am completely obsessed. Green Monster smoothies are supposed to provide you with tons of energy and make you feel good on the inside and outside. Did a little research and apparently these smoothies have become so popular there is actually a Green Monster movement.
Here is the basic recipe I stole from Oh She Glows, blogger who started Green Monster movement:
- 2 cups organic spinach
- 1-1.25 cups milk (I used vanilla soy)
- 1 tablespoon flax (optional)
- 1 banana
- ice
Put first four ingredients in blender in this order: flax, spinach, banana, milk. Blend for a minute, add ice and blend until completely pureed. Pour into a tall glass and enjoy!
I can just picture my roommate Christina cringing as she reads the word “spinach” in the ingredients list (you should have seen her face when I told her I was making fish tacos for dinner…in her defense, that is a gross recipe name) …but trust me this tastes NOTHING like spinach at all! It’s actually really sweet and refreshing! I added a couple packets Splenda because I am an addict and need my daily fix but it’s really not even necessary for this smoothie!
Best part is I have SO MUCH ENERGY! It’s only 11 am and I have already written a paper, gotten dressed and ready for class, done some laundry and found motivation to write this entry! My next goal is to find out how this magical smoothie will translate into a cocktail…stay tuned 🙂
